The Chamber of Commerce has recently teamed up with TCHC to offer members a helping hand to improve their Leadership & Management skills. TCHC is a new member of the Chamber and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome them and tell you a little bit about the funding you can receive for training as a result of our new partnership.

TCHC runs the Leadership and Management Advisory Service across the East of England. Since its launch, the service has benefited over 3,000 businesses in the region helping them access £1.3 million towards the cost of training.

Get your Recruitment Costs Down, TCHC has Job Ready Candidates with the Correct Skills

With reports that the economy is slowly showing signs of recovery more companies in the East of England are starting to look at taking on additional staff. But recruiting can be an expensive business. According to the CIPD’s latest annual recruitment survey, the average cost of recruitment is £4,000 per vacancy.

For many businesses, this cost is too high and may even put employers off expanding their workforce. TCHC's Top Tips and Advice for People Facing Redundancy

TCHC’s ‘Response to Redundancy’ programme offers free practical support

With unemployment in Britain at its highest level since 1995 and the Office for National Statistics announcing that the jobless rate is 7.8% of the workforce, the East of England is just one of the regions in the country that has been hit by widespread redundancies. But thanks to a £6 million redundancy support package* TCHC is able to offer individuals who are at risk of redundancy and those who have been made redundant, a FREE Response to Redundancy package. In the East of England 4,500 people have already benefitted from redundancy support.

TCHC’s ‘Skills for Jobs’ programme given the thumbs up by Barbara Follett, Minister for the East of England

Getting the East Region’s unemployed back to work

According to the East of England Development Agency, claimant unemployment rates in the East of England have more than doubled since April 2008*. TCHC, a company specialising in business and workforce development solutions, is helping to tackle this growing problem head-on with a range of Government-funded advice and training and support opportunities.

One of the providers for the ‘Skills for Jobs’ programme is Work House, a training, research and social marketing consultancy. The success of Work House’s ‘Springboard to Work’ programme, a free back-to-work initiative was recognised earlier this month when MP Barbara Follett came to see how it is helping people develop skills, improve confidence and find employment.

The Minister for the East of England visited participants of the project in Cromer, meeting some of the clients and also hearing first-hand from TCHC, the importance of developing skills and raising confidence for the unemployed.

Rose Lavin, Operations Director at TCHC, explained, “Barbara spent a long time chatting with the clients and hearing some of their inspirational stories. Although growing unemployment is an issue in the current economic climate there is help out there. TCHC can provide a whole host of funding through organisations such as EEDA, European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council.”

Rose continues, “Anyone facing unemployment should contact us direct and we can put them in touch with a vast range of providers across the East of England. Most courses attract funding and are great at raising confidence and improving skills. We also have a number of partnerships with organisations such as Job Centre Plus and are contacted directly by employers with recruitment needs. This enables us to provide the unemployed with a complete back to work package. ”

In just 9 months, TCHC’s Skills for Jobs programme has supported more than 1,020 beneficiaries. In these support sessions, participants learn to identify their skills, manage their time, and receive help with their CV and advice on interview techniques. As a result, 80% of participants are doing further skills development training, including English, Maths, ICT and Business Administration courses, and over 150 are back in work or volunteering.

According to Jenny Eaton from Work House, participants develop the confidence they need to approach potential employees. Jenny said, “When people are unemployed, morale and self-confidence is often very low. Our job is to support people and help them get their self-belief back. We are also there through the job hunting process and even after clients find employment.”
