This programme aims to help develop the experience and skills gained in both work and life. It is designed to help you to unlock the skills you never realised you had and package it into a marketable proposition to employers.

SSU offers a flexible programme of employability and skills training, which is responsive to your individual needs. It has been specifically designed for people who have been out of work, to help them meet and overcome the challenges they may face when looking for employment.

Who is this course for?

Are you struggling to find a job? Are you sending out lots of applications but not having any success? Are you feeling downhearted and feel you need inspiration to move back into employment? Maybe you do not even know how or where how to start looking for a job. If so, this is the course for you.

What does the course consist of?

Our experienced careers adviser will guide you through the content including:

  • A one-to-one in-depth assessment to determine the right support for you
  • Accredited employability training
  • CV support, development and goal setting
  • Job search, interview techniques and assistance
  • Mentoring and Wellbeing support
  • Advice on becoming self-employed or starting a business
  • Work placement opportunities
  • Continued in work support available for up to 13 weeks
  • Personal development including building confidence, motivation and team working.

Progression Routes 

The course is designed to help you move into employment, an Apprenticeship or gain on the job experience through work placement opportunities. For those who need to develop further skills and require training they will be signposted onto relevant courses, support groups and mainstream programmes.

I.T. Apprentice - Herts

Job title:  I.T. Apprentice
Location: Hemel Hempstead
Apprenticeship type: Infrastructure Technician
Sector: Technology
Hours: 8.30-5.30 Monday-Friday
Salary: £138.75 per week
Qualifications: Ideally 5 GCSE’s grade A-C or equivalent – however consideration given to gifted IT candidate with some knowledge of hardware and software.

The role 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to join an exciting and vibrant company based in Hertfordshire. There will be an opportunity to gain a recognised Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship qualification or study for a higher education qualification whilst gaining experience and skills in the workplace.

You will provide customer technical support via telephone, email and chat, so you will need to be a good communicator, good literacy and analytical skills, have attention to detail and can problem solve

They will need to be confident, possess good communication skills, they will be self-motivated and able to demonstrate resilience and personal perseverance. A positive attitude is essential.

Junior Support Technician

Job title:  Junior Support Technician
Location: Harpenden
Apprenticeship type: Infrastructure Technician
Sector: Technology
Hours: 9.00 - 5.30 Monday-Friday
Salary: £650 per month

Must have a keen interest in I.T. and be tech savvy.

The role 

Due to successful growth we ae looking for a Junior Support Technician.

Role will provide wide exposure to technical environment and is an excellent foundation for a career in IT. There is the opportunity to progress from junior and senior engineer roles.

Successful candidate must be well presented and willing to learn and take directions from their line manager. 

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing 1st and line Windows 7/8/10 operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory and PC hardware
  • Providing 1st line levels of support covering Office 365 and Exchange server, MS Office, networking, disaster recovery to a diverse customer base
  • Dealing directly with clients remotely or over the phone
  • Running/assisting the IT helpdesk to help manage support calls and record customer requirements to help allocate jobs as appropriate to ensure timely responses and solutions to meet SLAs.
  • Always deliver an excellent customer experience in a positive and customer focussed fashion.

You will also be supported through your infrastructure technician apprenticeship.
