What is the Understanding Enterprise Course?

If you are considering starting up your own business or becoming self-employed our Understanding Enterprise Course lets you explore what running a business is all about. Starting up your own business or self-employment can be very daunting, our Understanding Enterprise Course is a business start-up course designed to help you understand what running a business is about and whether it is right for you.

On the Understanding Enterprise course you will look at all the practical aspects of business start-up from someone who knows what it is like to run their own business. The interactive training sessions will offer you the chance to talk through business ideas with an experienced business adviser.

Who is it for?

This six day course will benefit residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, particularly anyone that is unemployed, claiming Jobseekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance.

What does it consist of?

During six engaging days, you will learn some of the key skills required to run a business including the importance of business planning, how to market your business and a wide range of important business skills to get your business started. You will get involved in a number of activities and practical exercises in order to understand the skills, attributes and behaviours to set up your own business enterprise. You will achieve the Level 1 Award in Understanding Enterprise. 

Progression Routes

The course will help you to develop your confidence and help you get the skills you need to become self-employed or start your own business. Further support into work or self-employment through our wide range of courses may also be available should you require it.

Essential I.T.

The course is great if you want to improve your I.T. skills to gain a job, or for personal use.  The course will introduce learners to a number of widely used computer packages and improve their skills and confidence across a number of computer functions.  These include, Using the internet and email, word processing and spreadsheets.

Who is this IT course for?

This 11 day course will benefit residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, particularly anyone that is unemployed, claiming Jobseekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance.

What does the course consist of?

Our experienced Tutor will cover the basics of computing and introduce learners to some widely used computer packages.  The course will be practical and hands on; and you will be “learning by doing” using a computer in a purpose built computer training suite.  Successful completion of the course leads to the achievement of the Level 2 Award in IT User Skills.

Step Into I.T.

Not everyone is confident with using a computer. Technology is more and more part of the everyday life, whether that is using it to find work, or at work. If you don’t like using computers, we can help you to improve your I.T. Skills and gain the confidence you need to use it for work or play.

This one-day course is for IT beginners and is about starting you off on the road to becoming I.T competent so that you can find and apply for work or get a job where you can use computers. Don’t get left behind, learn the basics and get confident and build up your I.T. Skills.

It will benefit residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, particularly anyone that is unemployed, claiming Universal Credit, Jobseekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance.

What does the course consist of?

Our experienced tutor will cover the basics of computing and introduce learners to some widely used industry standard computer packages and using the internet and emails. The course will be practical and hands on; and participants will “learn by doing”.

I.T. Skills Level 1 and 2

The course is great if you want to improve your I.T. skills.  Depending on your level of ability you can either join  the Level 1 or the level 2 I.T course. Both are delivered over 14 days. It will cover a number of widely used computer packages and improve skills and confidence across these. Applications include: using the internet, email, staying safe on-line, word processing, spreadsheets and improving productivity using IT. This course covers all the fundamental IT skills that employers are looking for and will significantly increase chances of finding a job.

Who is this IT course for?

This courses will benefit residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, particularly anyone that is unemployed, claiming Universal Credit, Jobseekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance.

What does the course consist of?

Our experienced tutor will cover the basics of computing and introduce learners to some widely used industry standard computer packages. The course will be practical and hands on; and participants will “learn by doing”. 

Successful completion of the course leads to the achievement of either a Level 1 or Level 2 Award in IT User Skills. If you complete the Level 1 course you may wish to continue your I.T. development and take the Level 2 course, which is more advanced than the Level 1.

You will learn about how these match to jobs that would be suitable for you and if you may need to learn new skills. You will find out about the skills and personal qualities employers are looking for today. The course will improve your communication skills and personal effectiveness for work and provide a basis for further learning. It will move you closer to the workplace.

Who is this course for?

Have you been out of work for some time and want to get back in the job market? Are you not sure about the skills you have and how they translate to the world of work today? You may not even be sure what job is right for you or what employers are looking for. Are you feeling downhearted and feel you need encouragement to move back into employment? If so, this is the course for you.
