Opportunity Suffolk is a flexible programme designed to help you develop the skills you need and support you into work or take a step towards it.

Opportunity Suffolk is a network of local specialist support organisations with a wide range of expertise to help build skills, gain confidence and meet the challenges you face to get you into employment or training.

The programme is tailored specifically to individual needs, whatever and however complex they may be. You will have a mentor who will be there to support you. If you can’t make it to us, we can come to you.

The programme is funded as part of the Building Better Opportunities by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund

Who is it for?

Anyone aged 24 or over, who lives in Suffolk and has not worked in the last two years.

What does the programme include?

This flexible programme is designed to meet your needs.  It offers intensive targeted support this could include:

  • Identifying the development needs and support required
  • Information, advice and guidance session
  • Financial and budgeting support
  • Housing and debt advice
  • Childcare support
  • English language training
  • Mentor to provide continuing support throughout the programme
  • Motivation and confidence building
  • Action plan to map out the relevant support
  • Bespoke package of support to overcome issues you face
  • Support applying for jobs

The length of the programme is determined by your needs.

Skills for the Workforce is a new programme that funds staff training and development – improving their skills and supporting their progression, while helping your organisation develop the skills levels you need to compete locally and globally.

Building Better Opportunities


What is Building Better Opportunities?

Big Lottery Fund is matching funds from the European Social Fund (ESF) 2014-2020 to invest in local projects tackling the root causes of poverty, promoting social inclusion and driving local jobs and growth.

TCHC with our partners has won funding to local communities with two programmes: Community Connections North and Enterprising People.

Community Connections

Tailored for individual needs, it offers a wide range of support from a network of community organisations to help people into employment.

The programme runs across Wisbech, March, Whittlesey, Chatteris, Kings Lynn, West Norfolk, Rutland, Huntingdonshire, Ely and East Cambridgehire, The area of the Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough LEP Fenland area (GCGP LEP).

Enterprising People

Aims to help individuals develop the tools they need to become self-employed or start a business.

It runs in the South East Midland Local Enterprise Partnership which includes areas in and around Kettering, Daventry, South Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Central Beds, Luton and Banbury.

Opportunity Suffolk

Supports people aged over 24 and living in Suffolk who need additional help to become work or training ready.

The partnership of community support organisations can offer a wide range of flexible help to meet your needs.



What is OnTrack?

Designed to meet the individual needs of young people in Thurrock to help get them into work, an Apprenticeship, education or training, to get their lives back OnTrack.  If focuses on overcoming any barriers stopping young people reaching their potential. Whether these are low or no qualifications, disabilities, being a carer, drug and alcohol problems, whatever the issues, this programme will support them through mentoring, specialised support and setting achievable short term goals.

Aim of OnTrack

It is designed to re-emgage young people who are disconnected from employment and learning and help them overcome the challenges they face. It facilitates young people's learning. personal and social development, through mentoring training and a variety of other support offers.

Who's it for?

those who live in the Borough of Thurrock and are aged 15-29 and not in employment, education or training

How it works?

OnTrack is tailored to meet the individual needs of young people, getting them on track towards their career goals. It consists of:

  • An initial assessment to find out what their aspirations are and any barriers they are facing
  • A bespoke package of support which focus on barriers and achieving their goals
  • Ongoing one to one mentoring and assistance
  • Work experience and work tasters to gain relevant job skills
  • Employability skills such as interview techniques, CV writing and job searching
  • Presentations, job fairs and networking events
  • Structured exit of the programme with sign posting to other services to ensure they continue to receive support should they require it

Support may include CBT, financial management, skills development, English, maths, ICT, self-confidence or personal presentation training.

Financial support

If needed clients may receive financial support which could include costs towards: traveling to work or interviews; work clothes and tools for specific jobs; and short-term or one off childcare. Employers may receive a wage subsidy.
