TCHC is launching a new service with King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council to help people become self-employed or start a new business.

The service will help anyone with a business idea make it a reality. It is specifically targeted at budding entrepreneurs from West Norfolk, and includes informative workshops covering all the points that you will need to consider when deciding to become self-employed or setting up your own business, as well as providing the opportunity to discuss your ideas and questions with an experienced business adviser.

Workshop Programme

Self Employment – Is it for me? Business Awareness Events

We will deliver half day Business Awareness Events giving you a practical insight into what it’s like and what it takes to become self- employed or start a small business.

By the end of the event, you will have the information required to decide if self- employment or running a business would be a viable option for you. You will have the confidence to explore this in greater detail. If you are interested in becoming self-employed, you will be referred to the most appropriate provision, including further support through the West Norfolk Business Start up support programme.

Self Employment – Building your Business Idea Workshops

We will also run full day Business Skills workshops to give you a comprehensive overview of the key business disciplines needed to research a business idea, assess its viability and start building the concept into a sustainable business.

The workshops will aim to help you decide what you want from your business, giving you the skills and knowledge to carry out initial market research and begin the process of planning your business idea.

By the end of the workshop, you will have clarified whether your business idea is potentially viable. You have also gained some useful skills in order to start your market research and financial planning.

Planning your Business Workshops

These full day workshops will give you the skills and knowledge needed to develop a robust business plan for your business.

Effective business planning is an essential step for any new business. The workshop will aim to clarify the process of developing a plan. It will focus on the purpose, contents and the customers of the business plan and include topics on understanding and explaining your market, resources and funding, cash flow and profit & loss forecasting, sales and marketing and the people involved in the business.

By the end of the workshop, you will have the skills and knowledge, together with usable templates to develop a robust business plan suitable for raising finance and for managing your business.

Business viability consultations

We will also deliver 150 1:1 sessions with an experienced business counsellor to help you assess the viability of your business idea, identify the next steps to take and provide a pathway to the ongoing support available.

By the end of the consultation, you will have the information to decide whether to go ahead and start a business. We will give you lots of information on sources of external help and support, and build your confidence, to help bring your business idea to fruition.

Business mentoring

On-going business mentoring is for people who have recently become self-employed or have started a business. Mentoring can be an invaluable resource for both established and new start businesses.

Having supported many individuals into business and others running larger companies, our Enterprise Facilitators can draw on a wealth of experience for up-and-coming enterprise owners. Through the programme TCHC will offer mentoring to new business start-ups supporting and guiding you through constructive feedback, being a sounding board for ideas and offering signpost and referral to complimentary sources of business help and support.
