Whether you run a bakers, fishmongers, florists, hardware store or any other retail environment the Intermediate Retail Apprenticeship in Retail Skills can develop your staffs skills to suit your business needs.

With a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Retail your employees will be highly trained and able to deal with customers effectively and in a professional manner, thus ensuring and maintaining the reputation of your business.

The Qualification

The units below have to be completed successfully. In addition to these businesses can decide along with their Tutor/Assesser which additional units to complete to meet the needs of their business.

Mandatory units:
  • Work effectively in a retail team
And choose from 77 optional units including:
  • Receive goods and materials into storage
  • Place goods and materials into storage
  • Keep stock on sale at required levels
  • Process customer orders for goods
  • Process returned goods
  • Assemble products for display
  • Maintain food safety while working with food
  • Cash up in a retail environment
  • Pick products in a retail environment to fulfil customer orders 
  • Check stock levels and sort out problems with stock levels in a retail environment
  • Provide nutrients to crops or plants (2 credits)
  • Display stock to promote sales to customers in a retail environment
  • Help customers to choose products
  • Carry out promotional campaigns
  • Deal with customer queries and complaints
  • Demonstrate products to customers
  • Process payments for purchases
  • Process applications for credit agreements offered
  • Promote loyalty schemes to customers
  • Follow guidelines for planning and preparing visual merchandising displays
  • Dress visual merchandising displays to attract customers
  • Order and position signage and graphics for visual merchandising displays
  • Make props and decorate fixtures and panels for visual merchandising
  • Assemble visual merchandising displays
  • Follow point-of-sale procedures for age-restricted products in a retail environment
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Using web-based facilities in-store to achieve retail sales

The qualification is achieved through teaching, learning on the job, e-learning, workshops and assessment.

On completion of the Apprenticeship the apprentice must be able to undertake the full range of duties, in the range of circumstances appropriate to the job, confidently and competently to the standard set by the industry.
