Cooking Lessons at TCHC GAPS
THURROCK CENTRE: GAINING CONFIDENCE IN THE KITCHEN
At our Thurrock centre, learners recently took part in an exciting hands-on cooking session designed to build both practical skills and confidence in the kitchen. During the session, participants learned how to prepare and cook chicken skewers from scratch, from chopping the ingredients to cooking them to perfection.
This experience gave learners the chance to develop essential cooking techniques while also fostering teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The kitchen was full of energy and enthusiasm as everyone worked through the steps together and practiced new skills.
By the end of the session, learners had not only created delicious chicken skewers but had also gained confidence in their abilities and the knowledge to try more recipes at home. The session was a fantastic example of learning through doing, with skills that will last far beyond the classroom.
WATFORD CENTRE: HANDS ON PIZZA MAKING FUN
At our Watford centre, learners had a hands-on cooking session that was both fun and educational: making pizzas entirely from scratch! Participants rolled out the dough, added toppings, and baked their creations, learning important cooking techniques along the way.
The session wasn’t just about making pizza; it was a chance for learners to develop confidence, creativity, and teamwork in the kitchen. Everyone got involved, experimenting with different toppings and practising skills like spreading, assembling, and cooking their pizzas safely.

By the end of the session, learners had created their own delicious pizzas and walked away with new culinary skills and a boost in confidence. The energy and enthusiasm in the kitchen highlighted just how engaging learning through doing can be, and everyone left excited to try making pizza again at home.
